Loved and Gone

From Between Rooms to Wardrobe | One of a Kind | Upcycled | Handcrafted in Amsterdam

This piece was created from a delicate nightdress (MM) from France that we believe dates from the 1920s - 1930s.

Originally this March 26, designed as a single dress pair the bottom with a round tablecloth, but in May 26, it evolved into a soft top and a full midi statement skirt! We loved to see them together as a set.

Light, airy, and rich in handmade detail, this is a piece that celebrates both preservation and transformation.

A little backstory

An antique cotton short dress nightgown with (MM initials) met an antique cotton tablecloth.

At first, they became one long dress.

The idea was beautiful, but the weight of the tablecloth was too much for the delicate upper part of the nightgown. It pulled the garment down, and something felt out of balance.

So we started again.

The dress became two pieces: a soft top and a full skirt with an elastic waist, finished with a handmade drawcord.

The tablecloth itself carried signs of time. Parts of the edge were damaged, and although we began repairing them by hand, we realised it would take days to restore every section.

Instead, we added a white and a smaller black lace panel around the hem.

Not to hide the repair, but to continue the story.

The contrast brought a new character to the piece, while allowing the antique crochet work to remain alive and wearable.

Sometimes the material tells us what it wants to become.

This was one of those times.

About the Making

Each piece in the From linen collection takes between 6 to 12+ hours* to complete. (Not to mention the days spent thinking about how to give them a new lease of life!)

  • 2–3 hours: washing, spot cleaning, dyeing, and mending

  • 2.5–4 hours: cutting and placement to preserve original details

  • 1.7–3.5 hours: sewing, finishing, and assembling

Every step is done slowly, with attention to the material and its story.

  • *Hand work and Hand sewing is involved at every stage of the production process.

Where and How It’s Made

Each piece is made either in our own studio or together with our trusted partner family atelier, just a short bike ride away, right here in Amsterdam. Nothing is outsourced. It’s just us, our hands, and a deep respect for the materials we work with.

A Note on Vintage Textiles

All textiles are pre-washed before we begin any transformation process. Because we work with pre-loved vintage fabrics, minor imperfections may be present — part of the story and character of each piece.

Please note: colors may vary slightly from what you see on screen due to natural lighting and different screens. We do our best to show the true feel of the garment. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do.
