The Maker(s)
Hi, I’m Katerina, the founder, designer and tailor behind Fitol Studio.
I grew up in southern Greece, surrounded by textiles that carried history.
Homes filled with pieces made by hand, fabrics kept and cared for, passed from one generation to the next. I remember the delicate semedakia me velonaki, woven cloths, and the quiet understanding that nothing was wasted.
That way of seeing stayed with me.
Before this, I studied Statistics and Actuarial Science and worked in that field for over 12 years. But I was always drawn to working with my hands. Over time, that pull became stronger than anything else.
Today, I collect old textiles and work with them.
I don’t approach them as finished pieces, but as materials with potential. Each one asks for something different. My role is to understand it, to work with it, and to shape it into a new form without losing where it comes from.
I am largely self-taught. My process is built through doing, experimenting, adjusting, and learning directly from the material.
I work from my studio in Amsterdam, developing each piece slowly and by hand. Some days are structured, others messy but always honest.
Fitol is built on care, not perfection.
With love & flowers,
Katerina
The Makers:
Some pieces are created in collaboration with skilled artisans.
Yasar is one of them, a tailor with over 40 years of experience, who continues to work from his small family workshop in Amsterdam with his wife Suz and good friend Memo.
"I am Yasar. I was born in Turkey in 1965. We are tailors from the family. My uncles (from mother's side) are also tailors. I started with helping my uncle during school holidays when I was 12. Later it became my profession as well. I am doing this job for 46 years. I moved to the Netherlands in 1986. I worked in different apparel shops. 15 years ago I opened my own atelier and I still continue there. I have loved doing my job for 46 years."
