The Butterfly Apron Skirt Top - Wrap stories No. 5 (OS)

€255.00

From Table to Wardrobe | One of a Kind | Handcrafted in Amsterdam

This piece began as an antique embroidered linen table runner, decorated with floral cutwork, handmade lace in several areas, and two symmetrical butterflies stitched into its surface many decades ago.

Rather than remaining a decorative object, it was transformed into a versatile wrap piece that can be worn as a skirt, an apron layer, or a top. Adjustable and lightweight, it adapts to different bodies and different ways of dressing while preserving the beauty of the original textile.

A little backstory

When we discovered this antique table runner, the butterfly embroidery immediately stood out. Hidden among flowers and delicate cutwork details, it felt as though the textile was quietly suggesting its next life.

The original idea was to create a wrap skirt that would be easy to wear and adaptable to different sizes. An internal system of hidden buttons was added, allowing the piece to be adjusted closer to the body for smaller sizes while maintaining its elegant shape.

The wrap construction naturally creates overlapping panels that open and move with the wearer. The original lace edges remain visible throughout, framing the silhouette and preserving the craftsmanship of the maker who created the textile long before it arrived in our studio.

Worn around the waist, it becomes a wrap skirt or apron layer. Worn higher on the body, it transforms into a simple top. The same textile offers multiple possibilities while remaining true to its original character.

About the Making

Each piece in the From linen collection takes between 6 to 12+ hours* to complete. (Not to mention the days spent thinking about how to give them a new lease of life!)

  • 2–3 hours: washing, spot cleaning, dyeing, and mending

  • 2.5–4 hours: cutting and placement to preserve original details

  • 1.7–3.5 hours: sewing, finishing, and assembling

Every step is done slowly, with attention to the material and its story.

  • *Hand work and Hand sewing is involved at every stage of the production process.

Where and How It’s Made

Each piece is made either in our own studio or together with our trusted partner family atelier, just a short bike ride away, right here in Amsterdam. Nothing is outsourced. It’s just us, our hands, and a deep respect for the materials we work with.

A Note on Vintage Textiles

All textiles are pre-washed before we begin any transformation process. Because we work with pre-loved vintage fabrics, minor imperfections may be present — part of the story and character of each piece.

Please note: colors may vary slightly from what you see on screen due to natural lighting and different screens. We do our best to show the true feel of the garment. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do.
