The Curtain & The Table - Black Antique Lace Edition (S/M)

€465.00

From Between Rooms to Wardrobe | One of a Kind | Upcycled | Handcrafted in Amsterdam

This piece began from two faded household textiles: a curtain and a tablecloth.

Both naturally worn by time, we later (summer 2025) overdyed in black while preserving the irregular tones and texture variations of the original fabrics.

This spring (April 2026) is reworked into a multifunctional garment that can be worn in several ways.

No second piece exists.

Story : The construction was developed by adapting to the original textiles rather than reshaping them completely.

Pintucks (tiny pleats) and folded areas were carefully added to bring both fabrics into the same length and rhythm while preserving as much of the original material as possible. Antique lace panels dyed in black tones have also been added, and two large straps made from a piece of tablecloth are detachable with mother-of-pearl buttons. Finally, the elastic is hidden at the top of the piece, but we chose the highest quality soft black elastic to create this beautiful piece and ensure it stays in place when worn as a skirt or a dress.

The lace panels are the central feature of the piece, adding movement and contrast to the structured silhouette.

It is designed to be worn on both sides.

We believe the raw used textiles date back to the 1940s–60s.

Now, they continue their life in a completely new form.

A little backstory

This multifunctional piece began as an old faded woven turquoise cotton tablecloth from France, with embroidery flowers, and a curtain in faded antique white with tiny pintucks. Both textiles have been part of ourcollection since 2021 , waiting for the right moment to be transformed.

We achieve a dark black tone through a careful dyeing process in our studio, which is the only way to hide the faded old areas and achieve the same colour, while preserving every little detail. However, any extras we use and the way of assembling both, such as lace, straps or pleats, match the textures.

The result is an easy to wear dress /skirt, soft on the skin, shaped for comfort, and carrying something from the past into the present.

About the Making

Each piece in the From linen collection takes between 6 to 12+ hours* to complete. (Not to mention the days spent thinking about how to give them a new lease of life!)

  • 2–3 hours: washing, spot cleaning, dyeing, and mending

  • 2.5–4 hours: cutting and placement to preserve original details

  • 1.7–3.5 hours: sewing, finishing, and assembling

Every step is done slowly, with attention to the material and its story.

  • *Hand work and Hand sewing is involved at every stage of the production process.

Where and How It’s Made

Each piece is made either in our own studio or together with our trusted partner family atelier, just a short bike ride away, right here in Amsterdam. Nothing is outsourced. It’s just us, our hands, and a deep respect for the materials we work with.

A Note on Vintage Textiles

All textiles are pre-washed before we begin any transformation process. Because we work with pre-loved vintage fabrics, minor imperfections may be present — part of the story and character of each piece.

Please note: colors may vary slightly from what you see on screen due to natural lighting and different screens. We do our best to show the true feel of the garment. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do.
