The Kentima Skirt - Mother of Pearl Edition (OS)

€327.00

From Table to Wardrobe | One of a Kind | Handcrafted in Amsterdam

Created from a pair of antique Greek linen table runners, carefully brought together to form a midi-length skirt.

The original embroidery (greek as Kentima /Ken/TEE-ma), drawn-thread work, and front button closure were preserved and incorporated into the design, allowing the craftsmanship of the textiles to remain visible. Mother-of-pearl buttons run along the front opening, while an adjustable waist in a creme tie creates a comfortable fit.

Rather than cutting away the decorative elements, the construction was developed around them. The floral motifs remain intact, framed by the original handwork and balanced through four carefully placed darts that create a well fit silhouette.

The result is a piece that feels both structured and effortless, carrying the history of two antique household linens into a new form.

One of one.

Story : The construction/ approach was developed by adapting to the original textiles rather than reshaping them completely.

A little backstory

This skirt began as a matching pair of antique linen table runners.

What drew me to them was not only the quality of the linen, but the beautiful symmetry of the embroidery and drawn-thread details. Instead of cutting the textiles apart and treating them as raw material, I wanted to keep as much of their original character as possible.

The design developed through arranging, folding, and connecting the two pieces until a new form emerged. The original button plackets became part of the front closure, while mother-of-pearl buttons and an adjustable waist tie completed the construction.

Very little of the original textiles was lost in the process (went to darts, and waist area). The embroidery remains exactly where it was stitched many decades ago, allowing the work of unknown hands to continue being seen and worn today.

A quiet example of transformation through preservation.

About the Making

Each piece in the From linen collection takes between 6 to 12+ hours* to complete. (Not to mention the days spent thinking about how to give them a new lease of life!)

  • 2–3 hours: washing, spot cleaning, dyeing, and mending

  • 2.5–4 hours: cutting and placement to preserve original details

  • 1.7–3.5 hours: sewing, finishing, and assembling

Every step is done slowly, with attention to the material and its story.

  • *Hand work and Hand sewing is involved at every stage of the production process.

Where and How It’s Made

Each piece is made either in our own studio or together with our trusted partner family atelier, just a short bike ride away, right here in Amsterdam. Nothing is outsourced. It’s just us, our hands, and a deep respect for the materials we work with.

A Note on Vintage Textiles

All textiles are pre-washed before we begin any transformation process. Because we work with pre-loved vintage fabrics, minor imperfections may be present — part of the story and character of each piece.

Please note: colors may vary slightly from what you see on screen due to natural lighting and different screens. We do our best to show the true feel of the garment. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do.
