How to wear it.
To wear the skirt, slide the waist long tie through the buttonhole on the upper edge of the fabric. Pull the right corner tie through the buttonhole and keep it taut. Wrap the left corner around your body until it reaches the buttonhole, then tie both ties together into a single bow. Adjust the skirt for a comfortable fit; it should rest snugly against your waist or hips without pinching or feeling loose. If necessary, untie and readjust until you achieve the perfect fit.
The Story Behind the Garment
This unique skirt began its journey with a charming 1980s tablecloth and its matching napkin set, featuring delightful shades of pink, gray, and brown. Sourced from Nathalie's enchanting Etsy shop in France, this tablecloth was given a second chance, reflecting Nathalie's passion for preserving and cherishing vintage textiles.
The design process continued with a vintage curtain I handpicked from a charity shop in Amsterdam a few years ago. Its intricate patterns and timeless appeal added a distinctive touch to the skirt. For the lining, I chose a vintage nightdress that once belonged to a grandmother, infusing the piece with a sense of nostalgia and history.
Combining these elements, I transformed them into a beautiful, one-of-a-kind skirt that tells a rich story. The blend of the 1980s tablecloth, the Amsterdam curtain, and the grandmother's nightdress resulted in a garment that embodies the essence of upcycling and the beauty of vintage craftsmanship. Each piece of fabric was carefully selected and thoughtfully integrated, creating a skirt that is not only stylish but also steeped in history.
As a designer passionate about saving and reviving vintage textiles, I am thrilled that I didn’t need to purchase anything new for this skirt. By revisiting my collection of deadstock fabrics, I created a piece that blends past and present. This approach results in a garment rich in history, carrying forward the passion of those who cherished these materials before me.
Reworked with love in our new studio, this garment is a testament to the timeless beauty of vintage craftsmanship and modern creativity.
