The Story Behind the Garment
How to wear it.
To wear the skirt, slide the tie through the buttonhole on the upper edge of the fabric. Pull the right corner tie through the buttonhole and keep it taut. Wrap the left corner around your body until it reaches the buttonhole, then tie both ties together into a single bow. Adjust the skirt for a comfortable fit; it should rest snugly against your waist or hips without pinching or feeling loose. If necessary, untie and readjust until you achieve the perfect fit.
The story :
This unique piece began its journey through a conversation with Susan, a brand agent at Max Mara. Susan, known for her exquisite taste in collecting vintage textiles, sent me a few rare tablecloths that hadn't yet been listed online. Knowing my penchant for playful and vibrant textiles, she included a delightful Italian tablecloth featuring an Arrabbiata pasta recipe with vibrant illustrations of raw ingredients like tomatoes and red peppers. The intricate red-bordered embroidery stitch framing the entire piece particularly caught my attention.
Back in our studio, I envisioned a one-of-a-kind skirt that blends vintage charm with modern elegance. I spent several days planning a design that would fit a range of body types, ultimately creating a one-size wrap skirt. Incorporating pleats, a detail I love to work with, added sophistication and enhanced the fabric's natural drape.
The Melidia skirt, named after my daughters Melina and Lydia who approved the design, features two sets of adjustable ties and an elasticated back waistband to ensure a comfortable fit for sizes XS to Large. Meticulously crafted pleats on the front add a chic, flowing silhouette. Perfect for pairing with your favorite tops, this skirt combines timeless charm with contemporary flair, making it a versatile and stylish addition to your wardrobe.
The result is a one-of-a-kind, wearable art piece that I am incredibly proud of. The abstract pleats and the intricate pocket detail create a beautiful, flowing silhouette.
Reworked with love in our new studio, this garment is a testament to the timeless beauty of vintage craftsmanship and modern creativity.
